Ethics And Morality Commandments

Seven Druze Commandments according to Imam Hamza ibn-'Ali
from The Druze Faith by Sami N. Makarem

1. To be veracious in the broadest sense of the word, i.e., to  profess the truth, act according to the truth and live for the truth

2. To safeguard and help one another by guiding one's fellow men  along the path of truth and live for the truth

3. To renounce all beliefs leading to the negation of the oneness of God and consequently leading to falsehood

4. To dissociate one's self from those who are perplexed and unable to see the right path and from those who transgress  righteousness and justice;  such people hinder man from knowing the truth and from reaching knowledge and consequently, happiness.  Man cannot reach this stage unless he dissociates himself from selfishness.  This is the first step man has to take in order to be able to realize himself in God.

5. To recognize the oneness of God and to strive for achieving  the real purpose of man, namely, to be in union with the One  as much as is humanly possible.

6. To be always in a state of peace of mind and contentment (rida) in relation to God because God is absolute Good; whatever issues from Him must be true and beautiful.  Man can only realize this state of peace of mind and contentment if he truly takes joy in the One instead of divulging in his own selfish desires and living in a state of [contrariety] discord.
7. To submit to God's actions and will taslim. By doing so, man enters the 'kingdom of God' wherein there is real life, true happiness, and absolute goodness.

MAJOR MORAL VALUES AS EXPLAINED IN THE TAWHID FAITH BOOK 3

Truthfulness is the quality or state of being any one, or a combination of, the following behavioral characteristics: true, real, genuine, xact, sincere, honest, trustworthy, and accordance with experience, facts, or reality.

Fellowship or brotherhood "Protecting or Safeguarding the Brethren" is frequently used to emphasize among the believers in particular, and among mankind in general.

Purity is defined in the content of The Tawhid Faith as the quality or condition of being clean, clear, innocent, honest, virtuous, loyal, and devoted.  Cleanliness of the body, clarity of the mind, and innocence in relationships with fellow humans are highly desired qualities of the MUWAHHID. Furthermore, honest in human relations, intellectual honesty, virtuous behavior, chastity, and spiritual devotion are steemed by the MUWAHHID. Purity should be an obvious characteristic of the mind, spirit, and body.

Compassion implies deep sympathy with, and sorrow for, the troubles of other people and willingness to help them.

Justice implies righteousness, fairness, impartiality or equal treatment, sound judgment, and congruence with the truth, religious ommands, or man-made laws,  It also comprises the determination of reward and punishment on an equal basis, regardless of differences in social background and physical characteristics.

Austerity implies moral strictness, rigorousness, abstinence, sacrifice, simplicity, and curbing appetites for physical pleasures.

Fortitude may be looked upon from an active or passive point of view.  In a passive sense, it implies patient endurance of pain, misfortune, injustice, oppression, and the like.  In an active sense, it refers to such qualities as firm resolve to take risks and to meet challenges, perseverance to achieve, persistent loyalty to ideals, courage, and the like.

Dignity implies several personal characteristics such as: worthiness, honor, nobility, merit, decency, and high repute, position, rank, or social status.  A person with dignity exhibits such personality traits on a regular basis in daily life, thereby commanding self-respect and the respect of others.
